Knights Head North to Windy City Invite

Sept. 28, 2012

The UCF women's golf team is back in action Monday and Tuesday after a three-week layoff. The Knights opened the season with a 14th-place finish Sept. 9-11 at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. Since then, head coach Emily Marron said her team has been focusing on consistency.

The Knights travel north early next week to take part in the Windy City Invitational, hosted by Northwestern University. The tournament will be played at the Glenview Club in Golf, Ill., just outside of Chicago.

Now that we have a tournament under our belts, we can raise our expectations, Marron said. We were pleased with our start at the Cougar Classic, but know we can and need to compete for all three rounds. We stumbled in our final round and will focus on having a strong finish in Chicago.

Carolin Pinegger, Monifa Sealy, Kaitlyn Price and Robyn Doig will all play in their second event of the fall. Meanwhile, newcomer Paola Robles will be playing in her first tournament as a Knight.

Paola Robles sees the lineup for the first time and we feel she will add some depth to the team, Marron said.

Bent greens in the northern part of the country will be a bit of an adjustment for the Knights, so they spent time on some similar greens in the Orlando area in the week leading up to the Windy City.

Among the 15 teams taking part in the tournament are Top 20 programs Texas Tech (currently ranked No. 1), Arizona, Oklahoma State, Ohio State and Washington.

The Windy City Invitational opens Monday with 36 holes of golf. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
