ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With the start of its league schedule quickly approaching, the UCF men's soccer team will look for an in-state non-conference victory Saturday when the Knights play at North Florida. The contest in Jacksonville will begin at 7 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
UCF (2-3-2) has played a tough schedule this season. Four of its seven matches have been on the road, including a pair across the country in California. The Knights have also played two top-15 ranked teams, including No. 12 Charlotte, who escaped Orlando with a 2-1 double-overtime victory Wednesday. The 49ers finished as the national runner-up a year ago.
Deshorn Brown scored versus Charlotte and has tallied a goal in four-straight games. The forward paces UCF with six goals and 14 points. When the Knights face the Ospreys Saturday, the match will allow A.J. Nelson to play in front of friends and family. The senior midfielder hails from Ponte Vedra Beach.
North Florida is 3-5 overall, with two of the losses coming against ranked teams. The squad is 2-2 at home in 2012.
UCF and the Ospreys met in Orlando in 2011 and the Knights rolled to a 3-0 victory. Nelson and McKauly Tulloch both scored in the win. UCF is 6-1-0 all-time against North Florida and has won three-straight matches in the series.
The contest in Jacksonville will serve as UCF's final non-league road match of the year. UCF will open Conference USA play Wednesday in Orlando against FIU.
