BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No.6 UCF women's soccer team (7-2-1, 1-1) got back on track Sunday afternoon with a 6-0 win at UAB (2-8-0, 1-1). Seniors Nicolette Radovcic and Tishia Jewell and freshman Allie Gerry became the first trio since 2004 to score multiple goals in the same match.
Sunday's impressive victory marked the most goals scored in one match by a Knights' squad since Oct. 29, 2010, when UCF blanked Southern Miss, 6-0.
"Coming into this weekend, we were going for two wins. Friday's overtime loss was a bit of a shell-shocked feeling, but we have a lot of talent on this team and they have a mission and a focus," UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell said. "They had a professional attitude and knew we had to get a win today. We scored in a variety of ways - balls over the top, set plays, through-balls. They played a full 90 minutes, and it was a good, complete win."
Jewell notched her second game-winner of the year off a cross from Ashley Nicol to score the first goal in the 11th minute.
Jewell assisted UCF's next goal when she sent a diagonal ball to Radovcic in front of the net, and Radovcic put it past the keeper in the 18th minute.
Radovcic would strike again in the 64th minute for her eighth goal of the season off a cross from the left side by Kristina Trujic.
Jewell increased the lead to 4-0 five minutes later off another assist from Nicol.
"It was important for Tish and Nic to finish their chances and impact the game," Cromwell said. "Tish's second goal was a great shot with an awesome ball played in from Ashley."
Gerry scored the first goal of her career in the 84th minute when she headed in Megan Fish's corner kick. She didn't stop there. With less than two minutes remaining in the game, freshman Maxine Murchie crossed a ball to Gerry in front of the net to cap the afternoon with UCF's sixth goal.
UCF begins a four-match homestand Friday when it faces Houston at 7 p.m.
"We're excited to be home and in front of our fans. We always seem to play well at home," Cromwell said. "We still want to win conference and with the loss Friday, we have to be more focused now in our vision and determination. We just have to do our job and get some wins."
Season tickets are available for UCF's remaining home games, beginning at $30. A complimentary soccer scarf comes with each purchase. The Gold Pass, which includes season tickets to all volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, softball and track and field contests, is also available now.
