ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - It's a three-peat for the UCF men's golf team. For the third consecutive season, the Knights have won the Adams Cup of Newport, which wrapped up at Carnegie Abbey Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

UCF edged Yale University by one stroke. Monday's second round, which was played at the historic Newport Country Club, was the difference. The Knights and Yale each carded a score of 286 in the first round and a score of 291 in the third round. But UCF tallied a 289 in the second round, compared to Yale's 290.

It was nice to travel back to Newport Country Club where the Adams Cup began, UCF head coach Bryce Wallor said. Our team played well enough to win. I think any time you have a close victory, the team learns to play with adversity and it will make you stronger for future competitions.

The Knights' final tally was 866, while Yale scored 867. Johnson & Wales (296-299-296-891) was third, while Villanova (292-301-304-897) and Sacred Heart (301-302-295-898) rounding out the top five of the 12-team event.

UCF also won the Adams Cup in 2010 and 2011.

Greg Eason and Ricardo Gouveia led the way for UCF. They both finished with four-over par scores of 215 for the tournament and tied for third place. Eason (70-74-71-215) had the low round of the day for the Knights Tuesday, while Gouveia (70-70-75-215) shot even par in each of the first two rounds.

Kyle Wilshire (73-72-72-217, +6) finished in sixth place as an individual. Michael Visacki (73-76-73-222 +11) and Jose Joia (74-73-75-217, +6) tied for 13th place.

UCF will be back in action again Oct. 8-9 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio.
