Former UCF golfer Devin Spies has advanced to the first qualifying stage of the PGA Tour's Q-School.
Spies took part in a pre-qualifying tournament at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. Sept. 11-13. The top 39 finishers in the event move on to the first qualifying stage, which will take place at 13 different courses in mid-October.
Spies was tied for 20th, shooting a three-round total of 219 (+3) in the pre-qualifying event at Bear Lakes. He opened the tournament with a four-over 76, but rebounded to card rounds of 70 (-2) and 73 (+1) to account for his final standing.
Spies wrapped up his UCF career during the 2009-10 season. He helped the Knights win a 2009 NCAA Regional title.
