ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Saturday, as he walked throughout the UCF Practice Facility and then moved into the UCF Arena, P.J. Gaynor was all smiles. The former UCF men's basketball forward had good reason to be happy as he received his bachelor's degree during summer commencement.
Gaynor, who concluded his collegiate playing career in March, earned his degree in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in criminal justice.
"I am very proud," Gaynor said of graduating in four years. "I didn't think that the day would come, but I wanted it to come."
Gaynor appeared in 121 contests as a Knight, good for fourth in program history. As a senior in 2011-12, he played in 31 games.
The Jacksonville native is pursuing a professional basketball career, and hopes to play overseas this upcoming season. He'll enter the next phase of his life with a college degree, and UCF head coach Donnie Jones and his staff are proud of his accomplishment.
"We are so happy for P.J. and his family," Jones said. "P.J. has shown so much growth during his time at UCF and to earn his degree in four years is a great achievement. That is always our top goal; to help our players earn their degrees."
