ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team was ranked No. 19 in the Golfweek college preview. The magazine revealed its ranking of the Knights on its website Sunday.
Golfweek said UCF is ready to build on last season's successes, which included advancing to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2009. The team picked up three victories and never finished worse than eighth last season. The publication pointed to UCF's "solid trio" of juniors Greg Eason, Jose Joia and Ricardo Gouveia as reason for optimism.
"It's certainly nice to receive some preseason recognition," UCF head coach Bryce Wallor said. "We're proud to be put in that group. But that preseason ranking really doesn't mean much if you don't go out and prove it on the course. The guys are certainly looking forward to getting out and competing when we get our season started in a couple weeks."
The Knights begin their 2012-13 campaign Sept. 8-9 at the Northern Intercollegiate in Sugar Grove, Ill. UCF won the Northern Intercollegiate in 2011, winning the event by 10 strokes over their nearest competition.
