ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - In a battle of the current top two programs in the state of Florida, the No. 9 UCF women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 1-0 decision to No. 3 Florida State on Friday night in its home opener.

The Knights forced Florida State goalkeeper Kelsey Wys to come up with four saves in order to escape with the win.

UCF (2-1) gave FSU (2-0) a scare twice in the first 12 minutes as Wys deflected two of Nicolette Radovcic's shots on goal. Radovcic nearly put one in the back of the net as she dribbled around her defender from the left side seven minutes into the game, but Wys dove to keep the match scoreless.

Florida State managed to capitalize on a throw-in by Jessica Price that found Dagny Brynjarsdottir, whose header just escaped UCF keeper Lianne Maldonado's outstretched fingertips for the 1-0 lead in the 25th minute.

UCF's best look in the second half came with seven minutes to go in the game when Kristina Trujik's attempt from outside the box was deflected over the crossbar.

UCF continues its home-opening weekend Sunday at 1 p.m. when it welcomes No. 12 Miami. Season tickets are available for UCF's remaining 10 home games, beginning at $30. A complimentary soccer scarf comes with each purchase.

The Gold Pass, which includes season tickets to all volleyball, men's and women's soccer, women's basketball, softball and track and field contests, is also available now. For more information and to place an order, call the UCF Ticket Office at (407) UCF-1000 or visit UCFAthletics.com.
