ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com)- With the loss of 10 players from the 2012 squad, UCF head baseball coach Terry Rooney and his staff hit the recruiting road hard this summer to secure 10 newcomers in the 2012-13 class. Now in his fifth season with the program, Rooney announced the new enrollees on Wednesday.
"I am pleased to announce the signing of our 2012 recruiting class," Rooney said. "I would like to thank our coaching staff, along with support staff who did an outstanding job throughout the recruitment process. I am confident that this group will play a significant role in the continued growth of our program."
In the decorated cast of newcomers, freshman Bo Decker and redshirt sophomore Spencer Davis were both selected in the MLB draft out of high school. Decker heard his name called this past June in the 39th round by the New York Yankees and Davis was tabbed in the 35th round by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010.
Along with seven 2012 high-school graduates, three players from the junior-college ranks look to make an immediate impact. Davis and fellow junior Daniel Davis will bolster the Knights' pitching staff from the right side while Parker Webster can show off his leather in either the infield or outfield.
The coaching staff secured some of the state of Florida's best talent by signing the trio of Zac Favre, Tyler Martin and Hunter Wildes from Jacksonville, Jarrod Petree (Apopka), Alex Milne (Tampa) and Ryan Reilly (Fort Lauderdale).
