ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's soccer team continues to receive good news this week as the Knights prepare for their 2012 season opener at USF on Friday. UCF was ranked No. 16 in Soccer America's Preseason Top-25 poll on Wednesday.
Among the other programs ranked in the poll, UCF will face three this upcoming season: Florida State (No. 6), Memphis (No. 11) and Boston College (No. 18). The Knights also hold the No. 12 spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and Continental Tire preseason rankings.
On Monday, senior forward Tishia Jewell was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List, the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The Knights were also recognized in the TopDrawerSoccer.com's Tournament 64 National Rankings, which aims to project the postseason NCAA tournament field, at No. 32.
On Tuesday, Jewell and junior defender Marissa Diggs were named as College Sports Madness Preseason All-Americans. The All-Conference USA Preseason Team selections are two of nine returning starters this year.
The team will travel to Tampa for its season opener on Friday at USF at 7:30 p.m. UCF holds its home opener on Friday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. against Florida State.
