ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF junior golfer Ricardo Gouveia has advanced to the Round of 32 at the United States Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
Gouveia defeated Eric Frazzetta of Long Beach, Calif. 4 & 3 Wednesday. Gouveia, seeded 20th in the tournament, advances to face 13th-seeded Nicholas Reach of Moscow, Pa., or No. 52 seed Patrick Duncan, Jr. of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. That match is scheduled to begin at 8:20 a.m. Thursday.
Gouveia qualified for match play by finishing tied for 19th in the two-round stroke play portion of the tournament. He opened stroke play on Monday with a score of 69 and followed that with a 71 on Tuesday. For the stroke play portion of the tournament, Gouveia was 1-under with a two-round total of 140.

Earlier this summer, Gouveia was one of 288 golfers to take part in the British Amateur at Royal Troon and Glasgow-Gailes Links. He qualified for match play there as well, advancing to the Round of 16.
An honorable mention All-America selection by PING and Golfweek, Gouveia was also the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year in 2011-12. He earned PING All-Southeast Region honors and was a member of the All-C-USA first team. Gouveia participated in all 12 events this past season. He posted a team-low 71.5 stroke average and had 20 rounds of par or better. Gouveia recorded five Top 10 performances. At the NCAA Championship, Gouveia tied for 37th. He helped the Knights advance to the championship with a strong showing at the NCAA Regionals, tying for 18th at the tournament in Stanford, Calif.
The native of Almancil, Portugal helped the Knights win three tournament titles during the 2010-11 season. UCF spent the entire campaign ranked in the Top 25 nationally, climbing as high as No. 6.
Gouveia and the UCF men's golf squad begin their fall season Sept. 8-9 at the Northern Intercollegiate in Sugar Grove, Ill.
