ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior All-American forward Tishia Jewell was named to the Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List on Monday. Jewell is among 38 women around the country and is one of two to represent Conference USA on the list.
The Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually in January. The award was first introduced on the women's side in 1988 when UCF's own Michelle Akers claimed the award in her final season as a Knight.
Jewell is among esteemed company as UCF alumna and All-American goalkeeper Aline Reis is the only other student-athlete in program history to be named to the Watch List.
Jewell returns for her final season as a Knight after finishing 2011 with NSCAA All-American distinction in addition to All-Central Region and All-C-USA USA First Team honors. She was ranked among the nation's top-25 players for assists and led the Knights with 24 points (7 goals, 10 assists). The Satellite Beach native started in 22 of 24 games for UCF, helping lead the program to its first Elite Eight appearance in 24 years.
Jewell was recently named to the All-C-USA Preseason Team along with defender Marissa Diggs. She joins Memphis junior Christabel Oduro as C-USA's only contenders for the award.
The list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by Nov. 29. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced Dec. 6. The winners will be announced at the awards' banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11.
The No. 12 Knights open their season this Friday at USF at 7:30 p.m. before traveling south to Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup.
