ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Former UCF men's soccer standout Sean Johnson has earned a call up to the U.S. Men's National Team and will be in uniform Wednesday for a friendly against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Johnson is one of three goalkeepers on the USA roster, joining Tim Howard and Nick Rimando.
He was one of 23 players called in to train for the match versus Mexico by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
A member of the Chicago Fire of the MLS, Johnson had a pair of saves Sunday in the Fire's win over the host Philadelphia Union. The call-up to the national team is the third for Johnson.
"I'm definitely excited," Johnson told Chicago-Fire.com prior to Sunday's match at Philadelphia. "It's always a great opportunity to get to represent your country and this game is a very special one with us going to play Mexico at the Azteca. It's the type of game that doesn't come around that often, so something that not everyone gets to experience."
Johnson played for the Knights from 2008-09 and was selected by Chicago in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
The match against Mexico will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
