ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Craig Brown has returned to the UCF men's basketball staff. Brown, who served as an assistant for the Knights from 2000-10, has been named UCF's director of operations, head coach Donnie Jones announced Tuesday.
In his new role, Brown will help monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, organize team travel, manage the program's budget, coordinate community service initiatives and direct summer youth camps.
"I have known Craig for many years, and he is a great addition to our staff," Jones said. "Craig knows what it takes to have success as a player and a member of the coaching staff and is well respected at UCF. We look forward to having Craig on the staff helping us continue to build a winning program."
During his previous stint at UCF, Brown helped the program make trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and 2005. He assisted in the development of Jermaine Taylor, who garnered All-America honors and the Conference USA Player of the Year Award in 2008-09. Brown coached 10 all-conference selections at UCF.
"I am so excited for the opportunity to join Coach Jones' staff. I have been blessed to be a member of the UCF family and I am thrilled to be back working with such great student-athletes, coaches and administrators," Brown said.
Brown spent the last two years as a broadcaster, handling color commentary duties for the Gator Radio Network, Bright House Sports Network and ESPN3.
Brown starred on the collegiate level at Florida in the 1990s. As the team captain on the 1993-94 Gator squad that went 29-8 and advanced to the Final Four for the first time in school history, he averaged 14.8 points per game and was an All-Southeastern Conference Second Team selection.
One of the top shooters in Florida history, Brown ended his stint in Gainesville as the Gators' all-time leader in 3-point field goals made (186). The Steelton, Pa., native concluded his collegiate career with 1,419 points, good for 15th all-time at Florida. Brown finished his career as a Gator ranked third on the program's all-time steals list (158) and fifth on the all-time assists chart (305).
Following his collegiate career, the guard played in the Continental Basketball Association. Brown also played professionally overseas in Brazil, China, Hong Kong and France.
