ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Natalie Land, who wrapped up her UCF softball career this past spring, has added one more accolade to the long list of honors she accumulated during her time with the Knights. Land has been named the 2011-12 Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the sport of softball.
The C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are presented to the top student-athletes in each conference-sponsored sport. The award is based on academic achievement, athletic achievement and service. The award winners are determined by C-USA's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
Land is a three-time Conference USA All-Academic Team honoree. She is a three-time winner of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal and was a four-year member of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. Land was a second-team Academic All-District selection in 2010 and a first-team choice for Academic All-District in 2011.
On the field, she was named UCF's Most Valuable Player following the 2012 season. Land is a three-time All-Conference USA selection and was a member of the league's All-Freshman team in 2009. She was a Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Mideast Region choice following this past season as well.
During the 2012 season, Land started all 58 games at shortstop. She led the Knights in batting average (.346), slugging percentage (.560), on-base percentage (.413), runs (51), hits (66), triples (5), home runs (8) and stolen bases (42).
