ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With the 2012-13 season closing in, the UCF women's tennis team released its schedule for the upcoming campaign Wednesday. The Knights will have 11 events at the UCF Tennis Complex, highlighted by dual-matches against DePaul and Notre Dame.
"We are very excited about this year's schedule," said head coach Stephanie Nickitas, who will be entering her sixth season at UCF in 2012-13. "We have a good balance of opponents that provides us many opportunities to move up in the rankings this year."
To kick off the fall slate, the Black and Gold will host Florida Gulf Coast, Marquette and Stetson in the UCF Quad Tournament Sept. 28-30. That will be the first of four fall tournaments leading up to the spring season.
When the calendar flips to 2013, Florida State, Furman and Iowa invade the UCF campus for the second Quad Tournament Jan. 19-21. The Seminoles finished 2012 ranked No. 40 in the nation. The following weekend, UCF begins the dual-match schedule by welcoming Bethune-Cookman (Jan. 25) and Florida A&M (Jan. 26) to town.
The Knights also will prepare for home dates against Troy, Furman, FGCU, Miami (Ohio), Boston University, DePaul and Notre Dame. DePaul boasted a No. 66 national-ranking in 2012, while the Fighting Irish close out the regular season April 13. UND was No. 19 a year ago, and it will be the first meeting on the courts between the two programs.
On the road, UCF travels to Florida, Florida Atlantic, FSU, North Florida, USF, Memphis, East Carolina, UNC-Wilmington and Stetson. It also battles Georgia State in Tallahassee as well as Saint Louis in Memphis for a pair of neutral-site match-ups. The 2013 Conference USA Championship is on the docket for April 18-21 hosted by Houston.
During the dual-match season, the Knights will rumble against seven programs ranked in the top 75 in 2012.
