ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior offensive guard Theo Goins received a spot on the 2012 Outland Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced Thursday. One of the most significant awards in college football, the Outland Trophy is given to the best interior lineman in the country.

A total of 71 student-athletes were honored Thursday, but UCF was the only school in Conference USA to have a representative on the prestigious watch list.

In 2009, Torell Troup was tagged to the Outland Trophy Watch List. The former Knight went on to have a solid season which led to him being selected in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills.

The Outland Trophy winner is chosen from three finalists who are part of the FWAA All-America Team. The FWAA All-America Committee, after voting input from the entire membership, selects the 25-man team and eventually the three Outland finalists to be named on Nov. 19. Committee members, then by individual ballot, select the winner.

The Outland Trophy, presented annually since 1946, is the third oldest award in major college football. The winner of the 67th Outland Trophy, named after the late John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn and Kansas at the turn of the century, will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 6 on ESPN. The Outland Trophy presentation banquet, sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, will be held on Jan. 10, 2013, in Omaha, Neb.

A native of Houston, Texas, Goins has earned at least five starts on the UCF offensive line every year since his redshirt freshman campaign in 2009. That year those starts came at right guard, while as a junior in 2011, he started 10 games at left guard. Last year he picked up All-C-USA Honorable Mention accolades, and was a Phil Steele Midseason All-C-USA Second Team honoree. Overall, Goins has played in 31 games with 22 starts in his three-year UCF career.

Goins received his bachelor's degree in interpersonal/organizational communication after the 2012 spring semester.

UCF football season tickets are currently available for as low as $140, while single-game tickets and flex plans are also on sale. For more information and to place an order, call the UCF Ticket Office at (407) 823-1000 or visit UCFAthletics.com.
