Game 2 Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 13 UCF baseball team could not overcome a six-run second inning by Presbyterian on Sunday as the Blue Hose took the second game of the series, 7-2.

The Knights (37-11) will look to clinch their eighth home weekend series Monday afternoon. The rubber match will take place at 12 p.m. and fans can enjoy dollar hot dogs all game long.

After setting down the first four Blue Hose batters to start the afternoon, junior lefty Brian Adkins failed to get out of the frame by giving up six runs on six-consecutive hits before he was lifted for freshman Garrett Nuss.

Pressed into early duty, the rookie shined for 7 1/3 innings, the longest outing of his young career. The Sorrento native limited Presbyterian to an unearned run on seven hits while walking none and striking out three.

UCF finally broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the fifth when D.J. Hicks turned on a 1-1 pitch and sent it over the right-field fence for his 11th home run this year. The junior first baseman from Altamonte Springs posted his fifth RBI this week and boasts 61 through 48 games.

Senior Alex Friedrich extended his hitting streak to six games as he led off the bottom of the sixth by depositing a 1-2 fastball well over the left-field wall for his fourth home run of 2012.

The pair of solo homers was all Presbyterian's Chandler Knox gave up as he notched a complete game while giving up eight hits and striking out six Knights on 133 pitches.
