ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Eric DeSalvo of the UCF Athletics Communications office received high praise for his work Thursday when he was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Midwest Region Sports Information Director of the Year. DeSalvo was one of eight athletics communications professionals nationally honored for their work with their institution's volleyball program.

"Eric has revolutionized how UCF volleyball fans receive information about our program," UCF volleyball head coach Todd Dagenais said. "His vision has opened up many avenues for us to interact with our supporters."

DeSalvo has worked hard to increase awareness about volleyball in the Central Florida region and on the UCF campus. He produces "Holding Court with Todd Dagenais," a weekly coaches show that airs on UCFAthletics.com. DeSalvo has provided a forum for UCF student-athletes by managing the Block Party blog, which allows team members to inform fans about the team. DeSalvo also has maximized the volleyball program's online presence by managing its Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts.

DeSalvo is in his first year with the Knights as an assistant director of athletics communications. He earned his bachelor's degree from UCF in 2009 and his master's degree from Northern Arizona in 2011.
