CHICAGO - UCF junior standout D.J. Hicks is a finalist for the "Fan's Choice Award presented by TD Ameritrade", Intersport announced Wednesday. The "Fan's Choice Award" goes beyond the stat sheet to honor and recognize college baseball players who are positive role models both on and off the field, exemplifying core values like teamwork and integrity, as well as the drive to win.
The winner will be determined by fans through Facebook voting and will be honored at the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Fans can learn more about Hicks and vote for him or any of the 19 finalists from now until Monday, June 25 by visiting Facebook.
After a stellar 2011 campaign, Hicks is in the midst of a special season. A preseason and midseason All-American, Hicks is ranked among the nation's elite in many offensive categories, including RBI, walks, and sacrifice flies. He's also flashed some serious leather this season, registering a near-perfect fielding percentage. Hicks was recently named to the Golden Spikes Mid-Season Watch list and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.
On and off the field, Hicks is a consummate team leader, always encouraging his teammates and carrying a smile. Even after games and late at night, the Altamonte Springs native leads by example by putting in countless hours in the cages to improve his game.
"The Fan's Choice Award" is the only college baseball award that is completely determined by fans. Fans who participate in the voting also have a unique opportunity to win: Each vote submitted is an automatic entry into a sweepstakes that will send one lucky fan on a VIP trip for two to the 2013 National Championship Series. Fans can vote once per day starting today. The winner will be randomly selected.
