GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team (39-17) opens NCAA Tournament play at 3:30 p.m. Friday when it takes on rival USF (45-11) in the first round of the Gainesville Regional.
The Knights and Bulls will be joined by the host Gators (46-11) and Florida Gulf Coast (37-22) during the four-team, double-elimination regional.

Should the Black and Gold win Friday's opener vs. USF, it would advance to the second round Saturday at 1 p.m. and play the winner of Florida vs. Florida Gulf Coast. The losing teams in the first round will play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Knights will be making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the program's 11-year history, and all of those games have been in Gainesville. UCF holds a 5-6 postseason record, including a 3-2 record in 2008, when the Knights played their way into the Regional Championship Game.
UCF has defeated both Florida and Florida Gulf Coast this season. The Black and Gold won a thrilling game over the Gators 2-0 at the UCF Softball Complex on April 11 in front of the second-largest crowd in school history. The Knights beat the Eagles 2-1 at home on Feb. 25.
