ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Game one of the winner-take-all Conference USA series between the No. 13 UCF baseball team and No. 4 Rice was postponed due to heavy rains in the top of the fifth inning. Play will resume at 3 p.m. Friday with UCF leading 8-3, and the second game will begin one hour after the completion of the first.
Fans with tickets to either the Thursday or Friday games will be admitted to the stadium Friday and can watch both contests. Spectators who purchase tickets Friday can see both games with the purchase of one ticket. For more information, call the UCF ticket office at (407) 823-1000 beginning at 9 a.m. Friday. Both contests will also air live on 740-AM The Game.
A crowd of 1,783 fans saw the Knights race out to an 8-0 lead with a five-run third inning and a three-run fourth. Darnell Sweeney, Chris Taladay and D.J. Hicks combined for five RBI to knock Rice starter Matthew Reckling out of the contest with no outs in the third.
Rice put up three runs in the top fifth before the game was halted after a lightning strike lit up the sky behind center field. The game will resume with two outs in the frame and the bases loaded.
