Rowing Finishes Fourth at C-USA Championships

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team put forth a solid effort at the Conference USA Women's Rowing Championships Saturday on Melton Hill Lake to finish fourth overall in the league for the second-straight year. The Knights scored 34 team points, topping last year's performance of 31.

Senior Chelsey Lauzon, fresh off of being named to the C-USA All-Academic Team, was honored once again by making the All-Conference Team for the third-straight year.

In the three scoring races, UCF took fourth in the First Varsity 8, fifth in the Second Varsity 8 and fourth overall in the Varsity 4.

Tennessee won the overall championship with gold in the V8 and 2V8 races, while placing second in the Varsity 4+ behind Kansas. The Longhorns took home silver in the Second Varsity 8, while finishing third in both the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 races to claim second place.

UCF's V8 (6:53.80) consisting of coxswain Katherin Kutash and Alyssa Egan, Margaret Lahmeyer, Lucia Pinelli, Camille Everett, Lauzon, Kara Johannesen, Calena Illan and Nina Morgan topped Tulsa (6:54.20) by four tenths of a second to claim fourth in the grand final and finished just eight seconds behind gold medalist Tennessee.

In the second varsity eight, UCF notched a time of 7:11.20 for fifth and rowed to a mark of 7:45.97 in the V4+.

Prior to the scoring races, the Knights finished fourth in the Open 4 (8:02.4) and sixth in the Novice 8 (7:33.00).

UCF fared well in the prelims beginning at 9 a.m. The 2V8 consisting of Claire Frenkel (coxswain), Ginni Dunlop, Shannon Riley, Michelle Haves, Nicole Lacek, Amanda Schimian, Victoria Carroll, Kayla Thieken and Kelly Thiele claimed the win with a blazing time of 6:57.70.

The Knights all finished third in the 1V8 prelim (6:52.91), third in the V4 (7:56.64), fourth in the second heat of the Novice 8 (7:23.50) and third in the first heat of the Open 4 (8:10.33).
