ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team plays its last midweek home game of the season as it returns to action against in-state rival Stetson Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
This will be the series finale between the two squads this year as the Knights (34-13) topped the Hatters (23-18), 3-1, at the UCF & Holiday Inn Select Spring Fling on March 3. Stetson currently sits sixth in the Atlantic Sun standings, but could finish as high as third with a strong finish.
Senior Ali Schmidt is expected to get the start for the Knights for the second consecutive Wednesday. The senior transfer is 11-3 with a 1.62 ERA in 21 appearances (16 starts). Schmidt pitched a complete-game four hitter in the Knights' first meeting with Stetson. UCF leads the all-time series against Stetson, 13-6, and has won five of the last six meetings.
The Knights have won their last 10 midweek games in large part to stellar pitching. On the year, UCF continues to sit atop Conference USA with a 1.52 ERA while leading the league in wins, complete games, strikeouts and opposing batting average.
