TEXARKANA, Ark. (UCFAthletics.com) - A strong finish by sophomore Greg Eason helped the No. 20 UCF men's golf team finish the first round of the Conference USA Tournament in fourth place, with a 290 (+2) on Sunday at the Texarkana Country Club.
Eason fired a 70 (-2). He capped off a 33 (-3) back nine with four-consecutive birdies. His strong play landed him in a tie for fifth place at the end of play.
Sophomores Kyle Wilshire and Ricardo Gouveia each shot a 72 (E), which puts them part of a large contingent in a tie for 10th place.
Senior Brad Schneider and sophomore Jose Joia each made three birdies to shoot a 76 (+4). Schneider will look to repeat his performance from last year's C-USA Tournament. He posted a six-stroke improvement from his first round 77 (+5) to shoot a 71 (-1) in the second round.
Jack Belote of Memphis and Max Buckley of SMU each shot a 68 (-4) to finish the day in a tie for first. Their respective teams sit atop the leader board. Memphis posted a 282 (-6) to finish the day in first place, with a two-stroke lead over second-place SMU.
Tee-time is set for 8 a.m. tomorrow and fans can follow the action live on golfstat.com. The Knights are seeking their fourth-consecutive C-USA title.
