ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF baseball's Darnell Sweeney has been named Conference USA's Hitter of the Week after leading the No. 15 Knights to a 4-0 mark, including a three-game sweep at Houston. The Miramar native batted .556 while registering four multi-hit games.
This is the third-career honor for Sweeney who earned the distinction both in 2010 and 2011.
Batting from the No. 2 spot all week, the 6-foot shortstop went 10-for-18 with five runs scored, three RBI and a trio of stolen bases. He extended his hitting streak to seven games and now owns 12 multiple-hit performances this year.
As a team, the Knights smacked 10-plus hits in all four contests. They own a .295 batting average through 29 games and have driven in a league-best 182 runs.
UCF will travel to Coral Gables on Wednesday for an in-state battle with Miami. Action from Alex Rodriguez Park is set for 6 p.m. with Marc Daniels calling the game on 740-AM.
