ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF softball team kicks off an eight-game homestand as it returns to action against in-state rival Bethune-Cookman Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
This will be the series finale between the two squads this year as the Knights (31-12) topped the Wildcats (21-22), 10-4, at the National Training Center Invitational in Clermont on Feb 11. B-CU started off slow as it opened the season 1-9, but it has turned things around in league play, winning 15 of its last 17 games.
Senior Ali Schmidt is expected to get the start for the Knights. The senior transfer is 9-3 with a 1.49 ERA in 19 appearances (14 starts). Schmidt earned the first save of her career in the Knights' first meeting with B-CU as she pitched three scoreless innings. UCF leads the all-time series against B-CU, 16-5.
The Knights have won their last nine midweek games in large part to stellar pitching. On the year, UCF continues to sit atop Conference USA with a 1.46 ERA while leading the league in wins, shutouts, strikeouts and opposing batting average.
UCF has eight home games remaining and tickets are available online at UCFAthletics.com and Ticketmaster.com, or by calling the UCF Athletics Ticket Office at (407) 823-1000.
