ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 16 UCF baseball team will embark on its longest road trip of the season beginning Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. matchup with Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. The in-state showdown with the Owls (16-9) will be the first of five-straight games away from Orlando for the Knights (19-6).
Although UCF has played its first 22-of-25 contests at the UCF baseball complex, the Knights are no stranger to in-state matchups in other venues. The Black and Gold sport a 2-1 record against state of Florida teams, including victories at Bethune-Cookman and most recently USF.
UCF's midweek ace, Ray Hanson, will once again get the call Tuesday night. In the 6-2 victory over the Bulls last week, Hanson tossed the longest outing by a Knights pitcher this season with seven one-run innings of work to secure his first victory of 2012. The 6-foot-7 righty owns a 1.40 ERA through 19 1/3 innings, and has strung together three-consecutive quality starts.
He will be opposed by FAU's Jake Meiers. The junior righty has had a tough go in 2012 thus far with a 12.06 ERA and 21 earned runs through four starts.
The Knights lead the all-time series with the Owls, 38-26. Since joining Conference USA, the former A-Sun members have met only three times with UCF taking two-of-three over the past two seasons.
