ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Fresh off its first series win against East Carolina and a season-sweep of USF, the UCF baseball team climbed in all four major rankings Monday. The Knights (19-6, 2-1 C-USA) topped USF in Tampa for its second triumph over the Bulls this season before winning 2-of-3 over the Pirates this past weekend to begin Conference USA play.
UCF jumped four spots to No. 17, its highest standing this season, in the Baseball America and USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll rankings. The Knights have appeared in each Baseball America poll since its No. 21 preseason ranking, and join Rice (No. 11) as the only two teams in Conference USA to appear in both rankings.
Monday also saw the Knights climb to No. 16 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll, and shoot up seven spots to No. 21 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper standings.
The highest ranking in program history for UCF came in 2001 at No. 7 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper polls.
UCF will begin its longest road trip of the season this Tuesday when the Knights travel to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic before resuming conference play with a weekend series at Houston. The Knights will return to the Sunshine State on April 4 at No. 12/8 Miami looking to avenge a 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes earlier this season.
