ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Precious Ogunleye added another freshman record to her resume and two Knights posted long jump performances among the nation's elite in day one of the UCF Invitational on Friday.
The Knights earned the top two finishes of flight one of the hammer throw as Ogunleye led the way with a new UCF-freshman-record toss of 49.90m/163-08 for seventh place overall. She now owns three freshman records after smashing UCF indoor records in the shot put and weight throw.
In her 2012 debut, Satrina Oliveira posted a personal-best 46.02m/151-00 for the second-best mark in the first heat and 11th place overall.
Senior Jacquelyn Gilchrist matched her personal-best 6.17m/20-03.00 (+1.9) from last week's outing to place second and continues to rank among the top five in the nation at the time of publication.
In her first collegiate long jump appearance, freshman Octavious Freeman impressed with the best mark of the first flight and a third-place finish overall. Freeman fouled on her first attempt but steadily improved with her next two jumps and elected to pass on the final three chances, settling for a personal-best 6.05m/19-10.25 (+1.4) for a performance that ranks among the top 10 in the nation.
The UCF Invitational resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. beginning with the women's discus. Due to a number of events scheduled at the athletics quadrant of campus Saturday, spectators can park in lots E6 and E7. A parking map link is located at the top of the story.
