ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) was honored for his work in the classroom Friday when he was named to the Conference USA Men's Basketball All-Academic Team. Rompza was one of five league players selected to the squad.

A three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll, Rompza holds a 3.20 cumulative grade-point-average. An interdisciplinary studies major with a minor in criminal justice, he has focus areas in behavioral/social science and commerce.

A four-year starter at point guard, Rompza currently leads C-USA in steals per game (2.5) and assist-turnover ratio (2.8) in league games. He is averaging 6.8 points and 4.1 assists this season. He ranks third in UCF history with 464 career assists and 203 career steals. Rompza is also ninth in league history in steals.

The C-USA All-Academic Team honor is the first for Rompza. He was joined on the squad by Maurice Kemp of East Carolina, Connor Frizzelle and Lucas Kuipers of Rice and Steven Idlet of Tulsa. Rompza's honor marks the third-straight year that a Knight has been named to the league all-academic team.

Rompza and fellow senior P.J. Gaynor (Jacksonville, Fla.) will both be recognized prior to UCF's regular-season finale Saturday against UAB. The senior night ceremony at the UCF Arena will begin around 6:50 p.m.
