Rowing Sweeps SMU and Falls Short in Both Races Against Texas

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After day one of racing in Texas, the UCF Rowing team finished with three boats taking victory against SMU.

In their first two races, the Knights finished behind host Texas. In the second varsity four, the boat consisting of Heather Hart, Allison Glisch, Cristina Sotomayor, Eden Veldkamp and Sydney Solan fell seven seconds behind Texas with a time of 8:52.9. The first novice eight boat had a time of 8:53.7.

As winds blew cross head and reached 15 mph, times began to slow down. The boat consisting of Lea Kram, Kayla Thieken, Allison Glisch, Shelby Flynn and Kelly Thiele dominated the first varsity four race finishing a minute and twenty-five seconds faster than SMU.

In the second varsity eight boat, Katherine Kutash, Shannon Riley, Katherine Krueger, Victoria Carroll, Nicole Lacek, Amanda Schimian, Noelle Crosby, Angelie Denizard and Anita Schmidt defeated SMU with a time of 7:54.3. The last race of the evening, involved UCF's first varsity eight squad with a finish of 7:22.5, almost 21 seconds faster than SMU.

Saturday morning, the Knights return to action against Texas, followed by Oklahoma in the afternoon.
