ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After a four-month layoff, the UCF Rowing team finished strong in its first home scrimmage of the spring season. All the Knights "A" novice and varsity boats took a clean sweep over in-state foe Nova Southeastern at Friday's home scrimmage.

It was a perfect day for rowing, as cross head winds built throughout the races, averaging about 8-10 mph all afternoon.

In the first race of the day, UCF's "A" boat of Rebecca Campbell, Chelsea McCaulley, Casey Craig, Janice Gowen and Carla Ortiz sailed to victory with a time 8:18.41 in the Novice 4 event.

In the Varsity 8 event, both Knights boats finished with a better time than Nova. The rig consisting of Claire Frenkel, Calena Illan, Kara Johannesen, Nina Morgan, Chelsey Lauzon, Lucia Pinelli, Margaret Lahmeyer, Camille Everett and Alyssa Egan was nine seconds faster than their teammate's boat with Katherine Kutash, Shannon Riley, Katherine Krueger, Michelle Haves, Nicole Lacek, Amanda Schimian, Noelle Crosby, Angelie Denizard and Anita Schmidt.

The last event of the day was the Varsity 4+, which had UCF placing first and third. Lea Kram, Kayla Thieken, Victoria Carroll, Shelby Flynn and Kelly Thiele powered their boat thirteen seconds past Nova, recording a time of 8:11.07.

Both the Knights' novice and varsity squads will return to action Friday when they travel to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Invitational. In Austin, the team will race against SMU, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas State.
