ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Behind its third weekend sweep of the 2012 season, the UCF baseball held strong in the latest national rankings. The Knights (13-4) dropped a pair of one-run games to No. 7 Florida State last Tuesday and Wednesday, but responded with three-straight over UMass to close out the week.
UCF finds itself down one spot to No. 19 in the Baseball America rankings, but moved up a notch in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches' Poll to No. 23. The Knights have appeared in each Baseball America poll since its No. 21 preseason ranking, and join Rice (No. 5/8) as the only two teams in Conference USA to appear in both rankings.
Also on Monday, UCF trickled back one spot to No. 21 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll and was bumped up in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings from No. 30 to No. 29.
The highest ranking in program history for UCF came in 2001 at No. 7 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper polls.
UCF welcomes No. 10 Miami to town Wednesday in its only midweek contest at the UCF baseball complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with Bright House Sports Network carrying the game live on Ch. 1147. Comcast subscribers will also be able to see the matchup of top-20 opponents live on CSS Sports.
