UCF Softball Ready to Host Georgetown in Midweek Doubleheader

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Riding an eight-game winning streak, its longest since 2008, the UCF softball team will play a doubleheader Wednesday against future BIG EAST foe Georgetown at the UCF Softball Complex. The first game will start at 3 p.m.

UCF, 13-7 overall and 9-1 at home, has showcased elite pitching all season, as it leads Conference USA in ERA, complete games, innings pitched, strikeouts and batting average against.

The Knights' pitching staff has featured a three-pronged attack led by freshman Mackenzie Audas (Plant City, Fla.), senior Ali Schmidt (Cordova, Md.) and junior Alex Hartshorn (Tampa, Fla.). Audas has a team-best 6-4 record with a 1.53 ERA, and she leads the Knights with 73 innings pitched, 10 complete games, 69 strikeouts and a .188 batting average against. Schmidt is 4-1 with two saves and a conference-leading 1.51 ERA. Hartshorn has three wins and leads the Knights with just eight walks issued on the season.

Senior Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) has hit .588 (10-17) with a double, two triples and a home run during her six-game hitting streak. Land's hot hitting began after her move to the top of the batting order. She has a team-leading eight runs scored and is a perfect two-for-two in stolen base attempts since she began leading off.

Georgetown (8-9) is coming off a 1-4 performance in Kissimmee at the Citrus Classic Tournament. The Hoyas are led by junior outfielder Shikara Lowe, who leads the team with a .442 batting average, two home runs and 12 RBI.

The Black and Gold will play five of their 20 remaining home games at the UCF Softball Complex this week. The Knights will open conference play with a doubleheader against Tulsa at 1 p.m. Saturday and a single game at noon Sunday. Season tickets for the 2012 season cost only $40.
