DADE CITY, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Continuing its dominance over the field, the No. 16 UCF men's golf team won the USF Invitational on Tuesday. The squad's 854 (-10) at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club was good enough for a six-stroke lead over second-place No. 22 Georgia. Third-place Kentucky finished 14 strokes behind the Knights. UCF held the lead at the end of play each day.
For the second-consecutive tournament, senior Brad Schneider (Valrico, Fla.) posted the best score on the team. Schneider's 212 (-4) earned him third place. He finished one stroke behind co-medalists Justin Dorward of Louisville and Chris Pledger of Arkansas State.
"Two weeks in a row Brad has played outstanding golf. We couldn't be happier for him. He works so hard and is an outstanding young man," said head coach Bryce Wallor.
Bouncing back in day three was sophomore Jose Joia (Lagoa, Portugal) A bogey-free final 12 holes, which included three birdies, helped Joia finish at 70 (-2) for the day. He posted the best round of any Knight on the day and finished the tournament tied for fifth.
Sophomores Ricardo Gouveia (Almancil, Portugal) and Greg Eason (Leicester City, England) both shot a 71 (-1) today. Each recorded a team-high six birdies.
Showing great resiliency was sophomore Kyle Wilshire (Georgetown, Ky.). Three of his four bogeys were succeeded by birdies.
Three regular season tournament titles is a new high for the Knights under Wallor. The squad won its first two tournaments of the season, the Northern Intercollegiate and Adams Cup of Newport.
This also marks the first time in the 2011-12 campaign that the Knights have won a tournament without having an individual earn medalist or co-medalist honors.
"I am so happy for our guys. Everybody made a contribution to this victory," Wallor said. "We played like a championship team."
The Knights will return to action on Monday, Feb. 19 when they host the Rio Pinar Invitational.
