HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 41 UCF women's golf team persevered through the tough conditions to finish fourth overall in the weather-shortened Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon from Long Cove Club. The Knights shot 28-over in the loaded field that featured 12 of the top-50 teams in the nation.
No. 2 Alabama ran away with the tournament, shooting just 3-over (571). No. 10 North Carolina (+14) and No. 5 Vanderbilt (+25) finished second and third, respectively.
Freshman Monifa Sealy (Glencoe, Trinidad and Tobago) ended the weekend as the Knights' highest finisher, tying for 12th overall with nine of the finalists ahead of her being ranked in the top 100. Sealy closed out the tournament shooting a 5-over 147 and finished in the top 20 for the second time this season.
Junior Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) closed out her solid second round with a 2-over 73, and placed in a tie for 15th overall with a 7-over 149. She carded a birdie on the par-4 14th on the way to her fourth top-20 finish of 2011-12.
Finishing just one stroke apart was sophomore Kaitlyn Price (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) and freshman Katie Mitchell (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) at +9 (151) and +10 (152), respectively. Price's second round featured five birdies to help catapult her into the top 30 overall.
