ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Andrea Rodrigues, a redshirt junior on the UCF women's soccer team, helped Portugal to a 4-0 win over Hungary on Friday in the 19th annual Algarve Cup in Parchal, Lagoa, Portugal. The win comes days after Portugal's 1-0 loss to Wales in the opening round.
Rodrigues scored the game-winner off a cross from Ana Borges within the first 15 minutes. Rodrigues nearly scored again in the second half when she rebounded a save in front of the goal, but Hungary's goalkeeper slid and thwarted her attempt.
"I'm loving every minute of this experience," Rodrigues said. "It's by far the most fun I've had - being invited to play for the National Team. Who doesn't love playing game after game? Even though we didn't play so well in our first game against Wales, we managed to come together and really perform against Hungary."
Portugal faces Ireland on Monday directly after the United States squares off against Japan. Rodrigues will have the opportunity to attend the rematch of the World Cup Finals.
"The U.S. has been doing very well this tournament, and so has Japan. It'll be a very exciting game to watch," Rodrigues said.
