ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF's men's and women's golf and tennis programs will take part in the 10th anniversary of the Tuscawilla Charity Weekend this year. The event gets underway Friday, March 9, with the kick-off party from 7-10 p.m. at the Tuscawilla Country Club clubhouse featuring a live band, silent and live auction.
The following day will be highlighted by a ladies tennis tournament and an exhibition match with UCF players. There also will be a golf scramble beginning at 10:15 a.m.
For more information or to attend the festivities, contact Robin Fricke at tennismom0701@gmail.com.
The event honors former Tuscawilla Country Club assistant tennis pro Stefan Borg who passed away in 2003. To help his wife and their two daughters, the Stefan Borg Memorial Tournament was created which initially raised $18,000.
Over the years the event has evolved, and in order to establish it in the minds of everyone in the Orlando area, the name was officially changed to The Tuscawilla Classic. Funds were provided to the family for the first five years. Organizations such as SafeHouse of Seminole, The HOPE Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs, Dignity-U-Wear, Ronald McDonald House and women's and children's programs at United Way have all benefitted from the event. To date, over $150,000 has been raised.
This year, Tuscawilla Country Club will be providing funds to the UCF golf and tennis programs, as well as looking to establish scholarships offered in the name of the club.
