CORAL GABLES, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team was unable to upset No. 36 Miami Friday, falling 5-2 at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The match was the first of two in south Florida this weekend for the Knights.

UCF (2-5) began the afternoon by taking the doubles point, but the Hurricanes, who improved to 5-2, won five of six singles contests.

Sophomore Mitch Thams (Queensland, Australia) picked up the lone singles victory for UCF. He held off Henrique Tsukamto (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) at No. 4.

In doubles, Thams joined sophomore Erik Brunskog (Linkoping, Sweden) for a 9-8 (7-5) triumph over Omar Aly and Wilfredo Gonzalez at the top spot. The UCF win at No. 1 clinched the doubles point. The Knights saved a few match points down 8-7, and broke serve to get the tiebreaker.

Facing Marco Stancati and Victor Mauz at No. 3, junior Juan Bolona (Miami, Fla.) and sophomore Matthew Gladstone (Surfside, Fla.) eased to an 8-1 victory.

UCF will conclude its trip to the southern portion of the state Sunday against Florida Atlantic at 10 a.m. in Boca Raton.
