ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team gets back to work Saturday as the Knights travel to Ft. Myers, Fla., to take on Florida Gulf Coast at 10 a.m. The Black and Gold is coming off a 6-1 win over East Carolina and a 4-3 loss to Tulane.
In its last match, UCF (2-5) almost completed a comeback against C-USA opponent Tulane, but fell short after an exhausting four and a half hours. The match featured four singles contests covering three sets. Jenna Doerfler and Genevieve Lorbergs led the Knights against Tulane, with both having good outings against the Green Wave. Doerfler defeated Caroline Thornton in three sets while Lorbergs needed just two to defeat Mariam Kurdadze. Josephine Haraldson also gave the Knights a point with a single win against Linsday Dvorak.
Florida Gulf Coast holds a record of 1-1, falling to in-state rival FAU 4-3 while defeating Bethune-Cookman by a score of 6-1. The Eagles are led by Jen Evans, who recently earned her first career Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award following a perfect 2-0 singles and doubles opening to the season. She is only the third women's tennis player of the week award winner in Florida Gulf Coast's history.
The Knights return to Orlando to face in-state rival USF on Feb. 22 at the UCF Tennis Complex. Admission to the event is free and begins at 2 p.m.
