ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Part three of UCFAthletics.com's season preview of the 2012 UCF baseball team focuses on the second basemen, a pair of players highlighted by senior Travis Shreve (Auburn, Wash.) who started all 60 games he played in at the position.

Second Basemen
-Sr. Travis Shreve - Scrappy natural second basemen who led the team in stolen bases (22) while compiling the second-most assists (163) on the team in 2011
-RFr. Spencer Haynes - 2010 MLB draft pick by the Oakland A's who could see time at SS and 3B as well

A year after recording the best fielding percentage in a season in school history (.978), the Knights will bring back both of their middle infielders with Shreve and shortstop Darnell Sweeney (Miramar, Fla.). A great vocal leader on the squad, Shreve leads the Knights in a multitude of ways.

In the field, Shreve racked up 163 assists and 116 put outs. His offensive presence was also a welcomed addition in 2011. The former Skagit Valley College standout hit .309 with 15 doubles 20 RBI and led the team with 22 stolen bases.

Haynes will be one of UCF's true utility infielders as he can play second, third and shortstop for head coach Terry Rooney's squad. Haynes concluded fall camp with a solid performance in the Black and Gold World Series.

Opening Knight is quickly approaching, as UCF will open its newly renovated ballpark against Long Island this Friday at 6:30 p.m. in game one of a three-game weekend series. The game is FREE for everyone who makes it out to the UCF baseball complex. Season and single-game tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (407) 823-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com's Tickets section.
