LEXINGTON, Ky. (UCFAthletics.com) - The No. 6 UCF track and field team shot off to an excellent start at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Friday night thanks to terrific performances from its field squad.

For the third consecutive week, Precious Ogunleye broke UCF's freshman indoor record for the weight throw, topping her performance last week by nearly a foot. She recorded a personal best 16.34 meters (53-07.50) for 13th place.

Destinee Romain finished three places ahead of Ogunleye in the event with a throw of 16.65m (54-07.50), just shy of her personal best.

"Precious is very talented. She's more talented than she even knows, and I feel like we're just scratching the surface with what she can do," said Jeff Chakouian, UCF's throws and pole vault coach. "She's very coachable and I think she's going to be a great thrower. The reason she keeps improving every week is because the more time she has to work with, the better she continues to get. I think she has a great career ahead of her."

Erica Weiss broke her own school indoor record and fell three inches shy of the outdoor school pole vault record with a mark of 3.72m (12-02.50). During the week, Weiss changed her practice regimen to mimic more of a meet setting, which Chakouian believes helped Weiss' performance on Friday.

"You could see it in her face that she was going to do well today," Chakouian said. "As a group, we went into the meet confident and all the ladies competed really hard. We're pleased with the effort but we still have a lot of work to do before conference."

UCF will resume action at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
