ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - One of the biggest events of the collegiate tennis season takes place this weekend, and the UCF women will be one of just 60 teams across the country to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off Weekend. The Knights travel to Waco, Texas, where they take on No. 5 and host Baylor Saturday at 12 p.m. ET to open the event.
Also meeting up in Waco, No. 73 UT Arlington battles No. 75 Wyoming, as the winning schools will play Sunday for the right to advance to the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship, hosted by Virginia in February. There will be a consolation match Sunday as well, and both contests are set for 12 p.m. ET.
The 15 universities hosting ITA Kick-Off Weekend events were designated as host sites in order of their year-end 2011 Campbell/ITA team ranking. Three visiting schools are traveling to each host site for a four-team tournament, and for specific dates and times of each match, visit ITATennis.com.
Live scoring of this weekend's matches at Baylor will be available at BaylorBears.com.
UCF stands at 1-1 on the year with a victory over Florida A&M and a loss at Florida State. The Knights have never faced Baylor, Wyoming or UT-Arlington. Baylor already owns a 6-0 record with wins over Penn State, Hawai'i, Prairie View A&M, Houston, Tarleton State and Stephen F. Austin. Wyoming, meanwhile, had its season-opener vs. Northern Colorado cancelled because of road conditions and UT-Arlington also will be starting its 2012 schedule this weekend.
