ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Days after automatically qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships, freshman Octavious Freeman was named the Conference USA Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The Lake Wales, Fla., native becomes the first UCF track athlete to earn the honor in the consecutive weeks since the program's inaugural season in Conference USA in 2006.

At the Auburn Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., this past weekend, Freeman improved upon her national best 60-meter time from the season opener to clock 7.23 for second place. She is currently the only sprinter in the country who has solidified her spot at nationals in the event.

Freeman also improved her 200-Meter personal best with a time of 23.77 for sixth place and the Knights' best finish in the event. The time ranks among the nation's top 15 overall and top three among freshmen.

Freeman is the first athlete in Conference USA history to earn the award in the first two weeks of the either the indoor or outdoor seasons.

Coming up, the No. 6 Knights will travel to the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky., on Friday and Saturday. Live stats for the meet will be available through ukathletics.com.
