ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior Aisha Patrick and junior Gevenia Carter were the 1-2 punch that knocked out Southern Miss in a 65-47 win in front of a school record crowd on Sunday afternoon.
Carter poured in a career-high 23 points while Patrick posted an incredible stat line of 19 points, eight rebounds, a season-high seven assists and five steals. UCF welcomed 2,178 fans on UKNIGHT for Education day to witness the Knights (7-9, 2-2 C-USA) hand the Golden Eagles (6-11, 0-4 C-USA) their fourth-straight loss.
UCF sank 16-of-29 in the first 20 minutes to produce its best shooting percentage (55.2 percent) of the first half this season. Trailing by seven points with 8:19 remaining before halftime, freshman Andrea Hines drained a three-pointer to spark UCF on a 13-0 run.
The streak was capped when Patrick drove the lane and dished it back out to Carter behind the arc where she connected from long distance to put the Knights up 29-23.
The Knights pushed their lead out to double digits in the first minute of the second half with five unanswered points from forwards Kayli Keough and Erika Jones, and UCF never looked back.
UCF will host Rice on Thursday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Marshall on Sunday. Season tickets, which start at only $49 for a fan pack of two, are still available by calling (407) UCF-1000 or by visiting UCFAthletics.com.
