ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The long-awaited open to the indoor track and field season gets underway this weekend when the No. 6 Knights split between the Virginia Tech Invitational and the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
Nineteen student-athletes will head to Blacksburg, Va., on Friday and Saturday to compete in 14 events. Events are scheduled to start on Friday at 5 p.m. and resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Nine other Knights will stay in Florida to participate in the middle distance and distance races at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
UCF will see how it measures up after being recognized as the No. 6 team in the nation by the USTFCCCA in its preseason pollearlier this week. Last season, UCF witnessed three student-athletes earn indoor All-American distinction.UCF returns 10 All-Conference USA performers from a season ago, eight of whom are C-USA champions.
In December, the Knights were recognized for signing a top-10 recruiting class by Track and Field News. Of UCF's 11 freshmen, 10 have experience as state qualifiers, including USA Today's All-USA Track and field Sprints Team member Octavious Freeman.
