CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The UCF women's rowing team had a successful day on the Tennessee River as six boats competed across three races at the Head of the Hooch Saturday afternoon. The second largest regatta in the U.S. saw over 9,000 participants.

Starting off the day in the Women's Championship 8+ event, the Knights saw their "A" boat record a season-best time of 16:30.0 to take sixth place overall. The lineup of Karlie Kechele, Margaret Lahmeyer, Calena Illan, Nina Morgan, Chelsey Lauzon, Ginni Dunlop, Nicole Lacek, Kara Johanessen and Katherine Krueger topped Conference USA foes Tulsa by six seconds, Alabama (16:49) and in-state rival Miami (16:45). UCF's "B" rig finished the event in 17:03.

Returning later in the afternoon, the Knights' "B" boat nabbed a fifth-place finish in the Women's Championship 4+ event in a time of 18:12.5. The squad of Lea Kram, Tory Carroll, Hannah Bogan, Anita Schmidt and Lynna Paradiso clocked a better time than North Carolina (18:21.3), Alabama (18:22), Duke (18:29) and Kansas (18:42.4). The Knights' "A" boat crossed the stripe in 18:58.6.

The novice crew also made the trip for the Knights and competed in the Women's College & Club Novice 8+ event. UCF's "A" boat of Katharine Kutash, Eden Veldkamp, Olivia Renfro, Chelsea McCaulley, Christina Sotomayer, Angelie Denizard, Carla Ortiz, Jacilynn Puterbaugh and Shannon Finner finished ninth in a time of 18:36.5, topping Florida (18:38.3), North Carolina (18:40.1), Louisville (18:58.4) and Kansas (19:17.6), FSU (19:23.2) and Miami (19:26.7). The Knights' "B" boat finished the race with a mark of 20:10.

Saturday's large regatta was the last of the fall campaign, as the Knights will return in the spring for the majority of their events.
