ORLANDO, Fla. (UCF Athletics.com) - Kasey Wilson will make his collegiate debut with the UCF men's basketball team this Saturday when the Knights host Saint Thomas in their season opener at the UCF Arena. The UKNIGHT Madness slam dunk contest champion has made it known that he can play down low with authority.
"I play athletic," he said. "I like to dunk a lot, and slash to the hoop. I think I was able to show that off to the fans by winning the contest."
Last year as a senior at North Port High School, Wilson scored an average of 21.0 points per game with 9.0 rebounds, and was selected to the Florida All-State Class 6A team. Coming into this year with the Knights, he has some expectations for the team and himself.
"First off, I want to win," he said "Whatever it is that coach tells me to do, I'm going to do it, and I expect to do it well."
Wilson played with the team in Canada this past summer, and played well while holding his own on both sides of the court. He showed off his size and strength by collecting 10 rebounds in 49 minutes of play during the three-game tour.
"The trip helped me get into a flow," he said. "I was able to get a feel for how this team plays and how our individual games can mesh together."
Coming out of the prep level in Florida, Wilson was rated as a top forward in the region by ESPNU. While his abilities on the court speak for them self, Wilson knows he will have to make adjustments to better his game at the collegiate level.
"I think the intensity and speed of the game calls for me to play more physical," he said. "While I'm always working on my defense, shot, ball handling, and overall IQ of the game, I think I could make some minor adjustments to be a more physical player."
While he possesses certain intangibles that can't be coached, Wilson is greatly looking forward to improving his game as the Knights open the season.
