ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A pair of former UCF men's golf standouts advanced through the first stage of PGA TOUR Qualifying School on Friday. Both Connor Arendell and David Johnson excelled at the St. John's Golf and Country Club in St. Augustine to move on to the second qualifying stage.

Arendell, who starred for the Knights from 2009-11, tied for second among 77 golfers at the four-round event. He finished at 16-under 272. He carded a 67 (-5) during Friday's final round. Twenty-two golfers advanced to the next stage of qualifying from St. Augustine.

Johnson attended UCF from 2007-08. He tied for 12th at the qualifying event at 12-under 275. Johnson also recorded a 67 during the final round.

The second stage of qualifying is set for mid-November.

During their time as Knights, both Arendell and Johnson played on two Conference USA Championship and NCAA Championship participant squads. As a senior in 2008-09, Johnson earned All-C-USA Second Team honors. The previous year, he was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year and was an all-league first team pick. This past year, Arendell garnered a spot on the All-C-USA First Team.
